Venice

Venice:not only a city of fantasy and freedom. It is also a city of joy and pleasure
PeggyGuggenheim

View of Venice before landing
Venice was the highlight for me this summer.I was really looking forward to it & just like Paris...it was love at first sight.Signore & Signori...i'm so in Love.....so there is plenty of photos.hehehe.
Some Quick Facts....
* Venice is not cheap & nothing is for free.Want map from Tourist Office? 2Euro!
* Got your map?Ok just put in in your suitcase as souvenir & prepare to get lost in the maze
* Look for landmarks and know which direction you are heading to.E.g. San Marco, Ferrovia, Rialto
* Relax.Relax & Relax
* Must Visit the beach!
* Mask too expensive to buy? Then, just kaykay like buying n take picture lor

Initially,i wanted to get a Venetian mask. Then,i try to picture this scene...Hubby not at home then u wake up at night go toilet. The mask there on the wall staring at you n you mind try hard to scare u..*faintz*So i change my mind...Horrid imagination, huh?
The first day,we tried to go the square...we were so tired of the route that we just accepted that we were lost and followed the crowd.Hehehe.
Rialto and San Marco..St Mark's Basilica

Found the square ready but how to find HRC?!!Finally,we arrived at the recently opened HRCGetting Married in Venice..How Romantic...Err..how they hang clothes like tat huh?from one block to another? If i know i will try in my HDB house too...
Gondola Ride...Trust me it was coincidental that i matched the gondola. Do you know?
*The Venetians don't walk between the columns of Venice's two patrons (Marco & Todaro) as this was the site where many executions had taken place. So,it is considered bad luck to walk in between these.Hubby wanted to take picture with pigeons. While,i was trying to take his pic,one pigeon comfortably sat on my hat.I was so freaked out.Hubby quickly snatch the camera n took these shots.
This was our territory for 2days.We sit here and enjoy the scenery, feed the pigeon pizza crust, take picture etc. While sitting here i noticed a banner on the opposite and told hubby that the banner says Singapore.I had no idea what it was but seeing the banner with Singapore in Venice just got me so excited.I believe it was some exhibition...On the last day,we had alot of time as our train was only at night. So we decided to take the taxi ferry and go over to the other island. When we reached the last stop,we saw lots of people in beach wear. So,we decided to check out the beach.

Colosseum.Palantine Hill.Bocca della Verità.

As the title states..that was our itinerary this day!Our first destination was to the Colosseum (Roman Coliseum). It was super super hot but i had no regret standing in this hot sun to admire the wonder of the world!

*Built in 1st Century A.D. .Then it was Flavian Amphitheater
*Used to host gladiatoral shows,Animal hunts & other events
*Many animals were believed to be extinct due to this animal hunt event then.
*Could accommodate up to 87,000 people
*Names of the senators craved on their seats (still can be seen)

After Colosseum we went to the Palantine Hill where i spent most of the time seated in shade.Hubby went around taking pictures.
Then we went to Santa Maria Church to see the Bocca della Verità a.k.a mouth of truth.Ancient time lie detector. It was believed that if you were to put your in the mouth and tell a lie...your had would be bitten off!!He must have seen many centuries of lies!!!
Inside Santa Maria Church.

In Rome,I noticed the traffic light for pedestrian had 3 men.Green,Red & Orange.I guess it is essential to control the human traffic...

The Vatican City

We were lucky that the day we were planning to visit The Vatican City Museum was last Sunday of the month. So it was free Entrance.Vittoria mentioned that it will be very crowded due to this and people go as early as possible to queue.Being the typical 'Kiasu Sing'hubby went early to Q too.I was supposed to join him later at 8am when they open.

Everything went as ok until hubby called me at 7.40am & said that they were letting the people in and there were only 5 of them in the Q.I was just getting ready and i tried to rush but when i reached there it was 8am and hubby was reQing. The Q was very very long now.I felt very bad for him.It was sooo hot! After that long Q we finally got in!

The Sistine Chapel & Michelangelo's Amazing paintings!!!
It was very hot that we decided to sit in a tourist bus to sightsee. This was our first Tourist bus ride and we realised that it was such a waste of money as it is not at all as informative as Walking tours. We went one complete round without alighting the bus.

After the tour,we head to the usual place in a city HRC!Hubby got his collarpin and we sat down for a drink to cool ourselves too.

The paintings on the ceiling so cute!

ROME

There is so much to blog about my trip but its difficult to find time. Now,i have all the time in the world and i want to share all about summer trip!

Upon arriving in Roma Termini,we made one big round to find the B&B that was much easier to reach from the Station. When we reached the entrance of Principe B&B we were greeted by a lovely middle-aged lady,Vittoria. She showed us to our room which was on the next street. The room was clean, simple and cozy.Vittoria gave us a map and tips on getting around.Since all the attractions were nearby,we decided to take bus and get familiar.

Rome was very different from Florence. The city was noisy and crowded.Taking bus around proved to be a bad idea as we ended up in the wrong bus stop then tried to take metro 2 times and finally stopped at one place. We remembered Vittoria mentioning this 'happening'place.
Like i mentioned earlier it was sooo crowded & noisy.Loud music (MJ's of course).Street packed with cars.
Below is the photo of shops along the canal. It was really really packed, hot n stuffy!I told hubby that i am not going to go the both sides of the canal or visit all the stores. So,let's just make it a quick one ok...
Later,we just walked a long way to find the busstop and head back to B&B.On the way i managed to grab @ a Chinese Restaurant Seafood Fried Rice .It was sooo yummy & tasted like the one back home that i told hubby we should go back and dine in at the restaurant the next day.

What did we do on Day 4....

Today,we decided to go to the Factory Outlet.Hubby said you can find most of the local brands here. So,we took train to Incisa Station.According to hubby's source there were buses from this train station to the factory outlet. But when we reach there it was like a ulu place..no bus stops nearby. So we walked out from the station and realised it was not easy to figure out the way.Hubby was smart & called the outlet to check how to get there. The person suggested a cab and was kind enough to call 1 for us.On our way to the 'mall'(as the locals address it) i was thankful that we took a cab as there was no way we could have reach this mountain peak by foot. The view was excellent in this town! Now if you are picturing a factory outlet like in Singapore u ar wrong..This looked very different more like a 'athas' mall than a factory outlet.

So what brand are you looking for??

Gucci,Valentino,Yves Saint Laurent,Salvatore Ferragamo,Armani,Burberry,Fendi & so many more..

The mall was crowded. There were good sale at the time we went but i was not planning to buy anything as i wanted hubby to finish his shopping. He was such a fussy man and hardly bought anything.Meanwhile, got bit crazy looking at all those gorgeous shoes but controlled myself as i had already had my share in Paris...Sigh.(its not easy..its not easy @ a place like THIS!).Finally,we had to leave with hubby's small purchase for we had a train to catch!

Next stop ROMA TERMINI...

Day 3:Florence

This day we visited the Accademia gallery where you can witness the great works of Michelangelo. We managed to book the tickets online before our trip inorder to avoid the queue. We were advised to go 15min before our timeslot.

Even one without knowlegde and passion for art will fall in love with the paintings and sculptures. This is where you can see the original David by Michelangelo.Photos and videos were strictly not allowed here that i didn't get to take pictures.

Below is some quick facts about David.
Its not easy to find words to describe a sculpture that is so magnificent. One has to see it to believe it.The details were so perfect from head to toe.Below is the copy of David statue found at the square. Then,we walked around the square and took pictures at the Bapistry of San Giovanni.

The bronze doors of the Bapistry
Hubby wanted to try the Tuscan food for dinner that we headed to a typical Tuscan Restaurant that was famous with the locals. We took a cab there as it was abit outskirt.

They gave us this once we sat down and realised later that it was charged to our bill but it was very nice.

Homemade Wine and it was very good. There is 1 on every table and u pay for what u drink only.

This one below was hubby's Primi piatti a.k.a appetizer but i don't remember the name of the dish.

Our main course Steak! It was very yummy and juicy!

After the delicious meal i thought of trying their dessert too.I was asking the lady who attended to us for recommendations. She was not very well verse in English and was struggling to reply when the the couple next to our table chorused 'TIRAMISU!'Looking at their excited reply i ordered that.
I am no big fan of Tiramisu at all as i don't like coffee that much but trust me this was GREAT!The coffee was little but still tasted bit strong. The chocolate taste was there and it melts in your mouth!!Super Super Yummy!

Overall, the restaurant is very good and price is reasonable for the food. You must go there before 8pm to beat the local crowd.Their website is http://altranvai.it/the_recipes.html
